The growing need for improved security and user-friendly authentication methods is driving an increased adoption of fingerprint readers across banking, consumer electronics, healthcare and border control. Research reveals that fingerprint readers are going to be the dominant biometric technology due to their high accuracy and ease of use.

Building on its industrially proven and low-cost organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) technology, FlexEnable has developed a flexible fingerprint sensor that brings a step change to where and how biometrics can be used in our lives.

FlexEnable’s OTFTs can be combined with organic photodiodes (OPDs) to create small and large area flexible optical sensors that can be used to image both fingerprints and veins. Our optical sensor is the only flexible sensor technology that has achieved 500 dots per inch (dpi) image resolution making it suitable for applications requiring standard-compliant fingerprint enrolment and identification. It can be paired with any end-user software to create low false acceptance (FAR) and rejection rates (FRR).

With a thickness less than 0.3 mm, the optical fingerprint sensors come in two sizes: 1” x 2” and 3” x 3.2” and. The 1” x 2”sensors can be used for integration in smartcards or mobile phones. The 3” x 3.2” sensors are suitable for optical fingerprint and vein scanners for border control or applications that require multi-finger verification. The sensors are suitable for FBI certification.
